Forecast downward for citrus exports
FJ
The volume exported will not reach the 600 000 tonnes initially planned.
According to "The Economist" citrus exports will be lower than 100 000 tonnes compared to the figures initially planned. The total could be 500 000 tonnes and not 600 000 tonnes as expected in the sector.
This decline comes from the damage caused by the weather in the month of November. Strong winds and heavy rains have resulted in damage (falls fruits, lower quality , disease). On a total production of 1.9 million tons of citrus, exportable share is less than 30%.
For EACCE ( Establishment of autonomous control and coordination of exports) the volumes exported to January 16 reached 217,000 tonnes this year against 300,000 last year. However, one must take into account a shift of 1 month for the start of the export season. Per destinations , Russia imported 94,000 tons , 47,000 tons the EU , the United States and Canada 60 000 tonnes , Northern Europe 16 000 tonnes.
