Ivory Coast wants to boost its production of fruit, especially bananas and pineapples to export.
The Ivorian authorities are targeting the revival of fruit production in the country.
The government has decided to invest 600 billion CFA francs (about € 1 billion) in the agricultural industry. The Central Organisation of exporting producers for pineapples and bananas from Côte d'Ivoire (OCAB) has outlined plans for this stimulus.
OCAB
plans to increase plantations, set up plants in production areas, develop local consumption and find better value products. OCAB says it is very optimistic about the prospects of the new Ivorian fruit industry.
Fruit production began to decline ten years and the post-election crisis experienced by the country has exacerbated this situation.
