Let’s talk rootstock: why excellent quality of the rootstock is essential for a fruit tree
Growers have a lot of options when it comes to select the rootstock for their orchards. Numerous research reports and years of practice have proved that ROOTSTOCKS play an essential role to determining orchard performance of FRUIT-TREES. This was discussed with ´LODDER-ROOTSTOCKS` manager ERHARD LODDER, his assistant Johanna Steber and Johann Sukkau, representative for the Russian speaking countries; they represented the nursery LODDER-UNTERLAGEN at the international exhibition FRUIT-LOGISTICA in Berlin, Germany.
Erhard Lodder is showing the photos of ROOTSTOCKS, grown by LODDER-UNTERLAGEN in Germany: "First you need to understand that just about every tree - fruit you have ever seen or eaten - was grown on a grafted tree. A grafted tree is comprised of two components: scion and the ROOTSTOCK. Those plants from stoolbeds need minimum three ´bushes´ of roots to guarantee that the ROOTSTOCKS will re-grow 99,9% in the customers´ soil. So, when FRUIT-TREE-growers choose the ROOTSTOCKS, they actually contribute to the future orchard`s performance! That is, why it is very important, to use the best graded ROOTSTOCK-material".
Production of LODDER-UNTERLAGEN is monitored and regularly retested (following European-certification-scheme). Johann Sukkau explains, that production soil is also certified - free of nemathode contamination-, which guarantees 99% vitality of the ROOTSTOCKS.
“The company exists since 1958, now 60 years - founded by the manager´s grandfather. With this experience we grow healthy and the best-graded premium ROOTSTOCKS for Apples, Pears, Cherries, Plums, Peaches, Apricots”, - concludes ERHARD LODDER.
