Strong increase in exports of lemons

Mexico has experienced a dramatic increase in exports of lemons.
According to the Secretariat of Agriculture (SAGARPA), exports of lemons rose by 44.1% during the period January-September 2012, compared to the same period of the previous year. During the first 9 months of 2012, Mexico exported 492,000 tonnes of lemons for a turnover of US $ 211 million.
The main destinations were: United States, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan. During this period the Mexican production reached 1.4 million tonnes of lemons. It is the application of good production practices that would explain the increase in production volumes.
