More lemons and tangerines, fewer Spanish oranges for the upcoming season

The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture has confirmed a projected harvest of 5.7 million metric tons, up 1.1% from the previous year, although production will remain 4.2% below the average for the past five years. The 2026 harvest potential has been boosted by good water availability following the rains recorded in winter and spring. On the other hand, high summer temperatures caused fruit drop, which reduces initial harvest expectations, especially for oranges and clementines.

4.2% below production potential

By product group, orange production will total 2.8 million metric tons, 4.6% less than in the previous season. Small citrus fruits will reach 1.8 million metric tons, up 0.8%, while the lemon harvest will rebound to 991,800 metric tons, 21% higher than last season. Grapefruit production will once again set a record, with more than 110,000 metric tons, 4.7% more than in 2025/26.
