Indonesia works on new national quality standard for longan

Indonesia has moved forward with the development of a national standard for longan after the Horticulture Technical Committee reviewed the draft on 15 September, according to BRMP Hortikultura.

Longan is one of four horticultural products for which BRMP Hortikultura proposed draft Indonesian National Standards in 2026. The others are garlic and passion fruit.

Participants reviewed quality requirements and technical parameters, with the aim of making the standards practical for producers while taking account of changes in technology, business requirements and field conditions.

BRMP said standardisation is intended to provide a clearer link between production quality and what buyers and consumers require. The draft still forms part of the standard-development process and should not be presented as a newly adopted mandatory rule.
