The pitahaya season in the state of Santa Catarina (Brazil) ended with a volume of more than 1.750 tons sold, which means an increase of 75% compared to the 2020/2021 season, according to the Brazilian Association of Fruit Producers and Exporters and Derivatives (Abrafrutas).
Brazilian agronomists explain this growth by the transformation of young orchards into adults and not the increase in planted area, which in turn totaled 236 hectares.
The main destinations at the local level were the South and Southeast regions of Brazil. A small part of this volume was also exported to Canada.
