Bar codes required for the United States
MD
The United States has increased its requirements on imported products, especially in Mexico, demanding the use of bar codes.
From 1 January 2012, Mexican fruits and vegetables have to include bar codes to enter the United States. The objective is to optimize the traceability of products and more quickly identify possible contaminated products to remove them as soon as possible from the market.
The label bar code will identify the product, its origin and trace its history in minutes. Reminders and alerts can be made possible within hours.
The Mexican Association of exporters, which includes 200 companies, said several companies have anticipated the requirements and already use bar codes for exports of Michoacan avocados
