Peruvian blueberries will enter the Malaysian market
VU
This year, Peruvian producers will be able to start exporting blueberries to Malaysia. According to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation of Peru (Midagri), the Malaysian Department of Agriculture (DOA) confirmed the phytosanitary requirements for importation.
These agreements were achieved thanks to the efforts of the National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa). The agency will be in charge of ensuring that the requirements established through phytosanitary certification are met.
To be exported to Malaysia, blueberry shipments must come from certified fields, to be processed by authorized packers, and to pass the phytosanitary inspection, according to the requirements established by the importing country.
After passing the phytosanitary inspection, the product must be subjected to cold treatment. The places of production and packing plants have to be registered in the list authorized by DOA and Senasa.
To date, Peru exports to 58 destinations: the United States, China, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom, Canada, among others, and Malaysia is a new opportunity for Peruvian blueberries.
By sending 162,459 tons of blueberries in the last campaign, Peru consolidated itself as the first exporting country of blueberries in the world.
