Sluggish beginning of the year for banana exports from Cameroon.
According to statistics from ASSOBACAM, the banana association of Cameroon, banana exports in the first quarter of 2018 decreased compared to the same period of 2017.
Various African media take over the statistics of ASSOBACAM and announce a decline in banana exports from Cameroon. In the first quarter of 2018, Cameroon exported only 59,149 tonnes of bananas, a volume well below the 78,610 tonnes exported during the first quarter of 2017.
This underperformance would have causes related to the "climate effects" that affected production. The decline in production leading to a decline in exports.
