Suspension of lemons exports

Due to extensive damage caused by frost, producers of Tucumán have decided to stop exports of lemons and to harvest for industry only.

The main area of lemons production in the region of Tucumán has been severely affected by frost and is forced to stop exports.

The cold spell that hit South America (see our news from 07.07), hit the Tucumán region that produces lemons from Argentina. Never observed in the region because of its intensity, duration and magnitude, the freeze has affected most of the plantations.

Due to the importance of the damage (stains on the skin, soft fruit) the Tucuman Citrus Association decided to suspend exports. The fruit harvest will be made only for industrial use.

The cessation of exports would also reduce packaging business for the Association but this decision will strengthen market confidence in the product.
