A premium price for the first shipment points to stronger export potential for Rewa’s mango growers.
India has completed the first commercial export of GI-tagged Rewa Sundarja mangoes from Madhya Pradesh to the United Arab Emirates.
The one-tonne consignment was shipped to the UAE on June 26, 2026. The mangoes were sourced from growers in Govindgarh, Rewa district, through a local farmer producer company.
Before export, the fruit was harvested under quality standards, then sorted, graded and packed at an APEDA-supported pack house in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh. After phytosanitary checks, the consignment was sent by air from Varanasi Airport to the UAE.
The export may bring better returns for growers in the Rewa region. While Rewa Sundarja mangoes usually sell locally for around ₹100–110 per kg ($1.05–$1.16), the exporter bought this shipment at ₹150 per kg ($1.58), giving farmers a premium of ₹40–50 per kg ($0.42–$0.53).
APEDA said the shipment was the result of work with Madhya Pradesh’s horticulture department, exporters, farmer producer organisations, pack house operators and overseas buyers. The move is expected to open the door for regular exports of the variety in future seasons.
Rewa Sundarja mango is known for its sweetness, aroma, fibreless pulp and distinct flavour. Its GI status gives it a clearer identity in export markets and could help Madhya Pradesh build a stronger position in premium mango exports.
