Chilean apple production will remain stable in the campaign 2021/22

Chilean apple production in the campaign 2021/22 would remain flat YOY and total 1,090,000 tons, according to the latest GAIN report from USDA.
Planted area will remain 32.300 hectares. Chilean growers are currently renewing apple orchards with new varieties, but planted area is not increasing significantly due to competition from other crops (cherries, walnuts) that bring more profit.
Some of the new apple varieties cultivated are Pink Lady, Rosy Glow, Brookfield Gala, Ambrosia, Buckeye, and Modi.
The producing regions
Chilean apple exports in the campaign 2021/22 are expected to reach 637.000 tons, nearly the same volume as in the previous campaign.
Last year, Chile supplied 66 different countries with this fruit, being the main recipients the U.S. (59.031 tons), India (56,163 tons), and Colombia (52,304 tons).
