Chile suspends mango imports from Peru
VU
Starting this week, Peru no longer exports fresh mangoes to Chile, informed the general manager of the Association of Peruvian Mango Producers and Exporters (APEM), Juan Carlos Rivera Ortega.
The Chilean government prohibited the entry of Peruvian mangoes into its territory because they found a queresa coma (Selenaspidus articulatus) in shipments of that fruit.
Selenaspidus articulatus is a pest of citrus and other fruit, including mango.
Ortega specified that the National Agricultural Health Service (Senasa) has already reacted to this measure and has spoken with the Chilean health authority.
In the next week, a commission from the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture is expected to come to Peru to verify mango export procedures and reopen this market.
