A gradual privatization is underway for two major commercial ports of the country.
Since 2010, the government launched the gradual privatization of the Haifa and Ashdod ports.
At the beginning of 2012, it is estimated that the private sector already holds 15% of capital of these two ports. The restructuring should be completed in 2020 with full privatization.
In 2011, the Ashdod port recorded traffic of 18.9 million tons of cargo (import and export). In Haifa, the traffic was 22.5 million tons for an income of 1.10 billion shekels (223 million euros) or 4% more than in 2010.
