An Italian cherry is now the heaviest cherry in the world

Record approved by Guinness World Records for a cherry harvested in Pecetto, Italy. This Carmen variety cherry weighs 33.0518 grams.

 

In Pecetto (Torino, Piemonte) the farm "Cascina Canape" is operated by the Rosso family. They raise pigs and cows, grow wheat and berries but they also have 6 hectares of cherry trees with various varieties.

 

In recent seasons, Alberto Rosso has noticed that his cherries of the Carmen variety are reaching significant weights. The 26 grams per fruit were very often reached and the average was between 28 and 30 grams with sometimes 33-34 grams, which is an adequate weight to break the Guinness record.

 

This season, the Rosso brothers called the experts on Tuesday June 22 for one of their cherries from the Carmen variety which showed a really big size. With the help of Coldiretti Torino and the provision of official material from INRiM (Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca Metrologica), a scale accurate to ten thousandth of a gram has enabled the record weight of 33.0518 grams to be certified. The record was approved by Guinness World Records on July 3.
