Peru–Thailand trade talks advance following a bilateral meeting; officials involved include Phumtham Wechayachai and Claudia Cornejo.
Peru and Thailand have reached a substantial conclusion in negotiations for a bilateral free trade agreement, bringing both countries closer to formalising a comprehensive trade pact, Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) said.
The two sides have agreed on the core elements of the agreement, with only technical details still to be finalised before legal review and signature. Once completed, the deal would replace the limited trade protocol currently governing bilateral trade and expand cooperation beyond goods to include services, investment and trade facilitation.
Thailand is seen as a strategic market for Peruvian exports, with shipments valued at around US$92 million in the first ten months of 2025. Key products include seafood, blueberries, copper, grapes, avocados and quinoa, while Thailand supplies Peru mainly with manufactured goods such as appliances and processed foods.
Negotiations were reactivated in 2025 after several years on hold, with progress accelerating following high-level discussions between trade ministers.
