Fruit companies reduce operational costs, energy consumption and product loss with ripening systems by Interko
This year, Interko, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of ripening rooms for fresh fruit, has installed its innovative rooms in the Netherlands, Colombia, Mexico, and Argentina for different fruit importers, retailers, and distributors who seek to reduce their operational costs, energy consumption and product loss, while boosting product quality and extending shelf-life.
Interko is looking forward to sharing its progress at Fruit Attraction on 5-7 October 2021. The popular trade show returns to IFEMA in Madrid, Spain, where the Dutch company will exhibit in Hall 10 on Stand 10C09C. Chris Maat, Managing Director/Partner, and Narcís Guinart, Project Manager, who both speak Spanish, will be there to provide all necessary information. Schedule an appointment by emailing info@interko.com.
Chris Maat commented that Fruit Attraction 2021 is the great opportunity to meet customers face-to-face and demonstrate how other companies could benefit from Interko’s ripening.
New installations
This summer, Interko installed its Optimo ripening rooms for 2 Dutch companies who ripen avocados. One is an importer-exporter who re-exports the fruit throughout Europe, while the other supplies directly to French supermarkets.
According to Maat, Interko is not only known for traditional banana ripening, but also for its advanced ripening rooms for avocados.
After the installations, one customer is reporting a significant reduction in production loss after a fall in the requirement for re-sorting. Both customers are benefiting from the flexibility provided by Optimo technology.
Maat commented that Optimo rooms can be compartmentalised into 4 zones since every zone has its own cooler and air guidance system. This means there is no need to fill the entire room if you only want to ripen a smaller load of fruits. This is a key benefit because operators can quickly respond to market requirements while supply and demand oscillate as the avocado industry develops.
This year Interko has installed 8 Ultimo
In Colombia, Interco has installed 4 Ultimo ripening rooms for an evolving avocado producer-exporter.
Earlier in 2021 the company also installed another 6 Ultimo ripening rooms for Don Jaime, an Argentine’s premium banana distributor. The rooms have reduced the company’s operational costs and improved both fruit quality and shelf-life.
