Sustainable management seal to empower Uruguayan agri businesses

Uruguayan businesses seek to boost their exports through sustainable management practices.

With this aim, the Union of Exporters of Uruguay (UEU) and the Technological Laboratory of Uruguay (LATU) developed the UEU-LATU Sustainable Management Seal. 

Both institutions emphasize the increasing importance of sustainability. Facundo Márquez, the president of UEU, highlights that the seal is a facilitating instrument for companies to prepare for the future and to consider environmental, social, and governance factors (ESG). 

Diego Wollheim, the director of UEU's Green Export Unit, emphasizes the opportunity for Uruguayan companies to position themselves in the market by adopting sustainable practices. 

While the new seal does not address the lack of a single international sustainability certification for exports, it offers a roadmap for companies to strengthen their internal sustainability practices and prepare for certification requirements.
