Peruvian onion exports drop 15% year-on-year

The United States remains the main buyer of Peruvian onions.
Between January and August 2025, Peru exported onions worth US $51.94 million, down 16% from the same period in 2024. The United States remained the main buyer, accounting for US $19.03 million (36.6%) of total shipments. Other key destinations included Colombia (US $12.9 million) and Spain (US $11.53 million).
The Ica region dominated exports with 62 % of total value (US $32.18 million), despite a 22% year-on-year decline. Most onions were shipped fresh or refrigerated, with a 15.5% drop in export value compared to 2024. Other producing regions — Lambayeque, Arequipa, La Libertad, Puno, Lima, and Áncash — contributed smaller volumes.
In 2024, total onion exports reached US $127.72 million, up 21.8 % from 2023. The latest data confirm the U.S. as Peru’s top onion market, with Ica continuing as the country’s leading export hub.
