Chile and Brazil launch ePhyto system to improve agricultural trade

The ePhyto rollout marks a significant step toward deeper sanitary cooperation and the digital transformation of regional commerce.
Chile and Brazil have begun exchanging electronic phytosanitary certificates (ePhyto) for agricultural products as of 10 November, replacing paper documents and streamlining border procedures, according to Chilean media.
Agriculture Minister Ignacia Fernández called the move a “decisive step,” stressing that digital certification cuts costs, reduces fraud risks, and accelerates inspections with Brazil — Chile’s main silvo-agricultural partner in the Southern Cone. In addition, ePhytos eliminate lost papers, reissues and tampering, strengthening traceability during export operations.
The system will apply to all Chilean horticultural and propagation exports to Brazil. Brazil, in turn, will begin with a limited product list — such as beet and sunflower seeds, ginger and pepper — with gradual expansion planned.
