The Axarquia region ( eastern part of Malaga province ) offers an exceptional climate that can grow mangoes in Spain.
Harvests are done from late August to early December . This year mangoes production expected to be between 20 and 22 million kilos , which is the absolute record of the young history of this fruit in the region.
Mango is cultivated in the Axarquia region since the late 1980s. Occupied surfaces has repidly grown, an increase of almost 200 hectares per year and is about 3,400 hectares currently.
Mangoes Axarquia are recognized in the Spanish market and also on other European markets as an exceptional fruit. These mangoes are harvested almost ripe on the tree and therefore are much sweeter than the imported mangoes arriving in Europe by ship.
