How fruit and vegetable trade between Spain and China will look in 2024

Exports to China are subject to strict bilateral phytosanitary protocols that require lengthy negotiations, with Spain being one of the EU countries with agreements for products such as peaches, grapes and citrus fruits.
During the first half of 2024, Spanish exports of fresh fruits and vegetables to China reached 5.9 million euros, representing a slight decrease of 1% in volume over the previous year. In total, Spain exported 3,661 tons of fruits and vegetables to the Asian country, according to data from the Customs and Excise Department.
On the other hand, Spanish imports of fruit and vegetable products from China increased considerably, reaching 4,823 tons, 34% more than in the same period of 2023, with a value of 6.6 million euros, an increase of 65%. Despite this growth, China still represents only 0.2% of total Spanish imports in this sector.
