Record Spanish Broccoli Exports

Broccoli is one of Spain’s leading export vegetables, with production heavily concentrated in the Region of Murcia (about 70% of the national total), followed by Navarre, Valencia, Albacete, and Granada. Spain is also the European Union’s leading exporter of broccoli. Official annual data specific to broccoli come from the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA) and the exporters’ federation FEPEX. The most recent figures for 2025 are still provisional, with production estimated at between 515,000 and 520,000 metric tons. Exports are expected to exceed 290,000 metric tons, which would be a record. Production four years ago also reached 520,000 metric tons, while exports totaled 280,000 metric tons.

120,000 metric tons for domestic fresh consumption

According to estimates by the Mas Brócoli association, fresh consumption in the Spanish market ranges between 120,000 and 130,000 metric tons. This represents approximately half of non-exported production, which totals between 250,000 and 300,000 metric tons. The remainder is processed by the frozen food industry—between 150,000 and 170,000 metric tons—most of which is then exported.

Nearly 10% of exports go overseas

The main export markets for Spanish broccoli are Germany, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, and Italy. More than 90% of Spanish broccoli exports go to European Union countries and the United Kingdom.
