Ecuadorian banana exports register an increase of 7.24%

In 2019 Ecuador exported the record volume of 357 million boxes.
Despite the impact of the pandemic, Ecuador has just recorded significant growth in the volume of its banana exports.
From January to October 2020, Ecuador exported more than 315 million boxes (18.5 kg) of bananas, an increase of 7.24% over the volume shipped last year for the same period.
According to ACORBANEC (Asociación de Comercialización y Exportación de Banano) the European Union is the 1st buying market for Ecuadorian bananas with a share of 26.87% and records an increase in volumes of +8.2 million boxes sold compared to 2019 .
The other main destinations are Russia, the Middle East, the United States, East Asia, South America, Eastern Europe and Africa, the latter 2 regions showing a significant growth, over 20%.
BCE (Banco Central del Ecuador) clarified that banana exports, from January to September 2020, brought in 2.414 billion USD to the country's economy and are the first agricultural export product.
