Increasing banana production and fight against waste

The state of Tamil Nadu in southern India, is the largest producer of bananas of the country.
Banana production in the state of Tamil Nadu has increased sharply in recent years. Production went from 4.9 million tons in 2009-10 to almost 9 million tons in 2012-13. The waste is at least 20%.
During Banana Festival, which was held in Coimbatore, a report was released to reduce the waste. Among the measures recommended, the building of 10 sites for the storage, packaging and maturation of bananas near the collection areas. Investments are important and require a public-private partnership.
