The Valais region produces 97% of the apricots in Switzerland and this year the harvest promises to be excellent both in quality and quantity.
IFELV (Interprofession of fruit and vegetables of Valais) forecasts a production of 9,500 tons of apricots, 8% more than last year. The 2019 harvest has started about 10 days late compared to 2018. The harvest will continue until mid-September, with peak production between July 10th and August 1st.
In the Valais apricot orchards extend over 704 hectares, producing 97% of the apricots in Switzerland and covering 50% of the country's consumption, the rest being imported.
