2017 production expected early and superior in volume

 

 

 

Estimates for the production of cherries by the Ministry of Agriculture (SSP) (Statistics and Forecasting Service) are forecast to total 38,100 tons by the end of May, almost 10% more than in 2016 (35,000 tons) . Nevertheless, there is still uncertainty, the damage of the April freeze was not yet known at the time of these estimates.

 

 

 

Some areas, very localized, suffered frost damage. In the main regions, flowering took place under very favorable climatic conditions. In the PACA region, production is down by 5%, in the Rhône Valley region production is expected to increase by 27% and with a vegetation advance of about 10 days in the Languedoc and Roussillon regions. Production is expected to be higher than in 2016 and the advance is estimated at 15 days, in the region of the Garonne Valley a 30% increase is expected.
