Production and exports in increase

In Costa Rica, the banana is in increase of 23 % for the production and 13,8 % for the exports in 2010.
The production of bananas in Costa Rica seems hopeful. The favourable climate which is planned will allow a better productivity this year.
According to the last report of the national Company of the banana (CORBANA), production of bananas should increase by 23 % this year and reach 1,928 million tons.
Costa Rica counts about 45.000 hectares of bananas which are with pineapple two of the main products of exports.
The first 2 months of the year were good and for the Office of promotion of the foreign trade (PROCOMER), the exports increased by 13,8 % with regard to the first 2 months of 2009. Over one year the exports of bananas are in increase of 28 %.
The exports of Costa Rica are to the North America (39 %), the European Union (18 %), and the Central America (18 %). The exports towards China and Singapore increased in 2010 of about 26 % and to strengthen these exchanges, Costa Rica is establishing agreements of free trade with these 2 countries.
