Pear exports up 20%

Chile has achieved significant gains in its exports of pears for the 2010-2011 season.
ASOEX, Association of exporters of fruits, announced that exports of pears reached 133,691 tons in 2010-2011, an increase of 19.7% from 111,705 tonnes in 2009-2010.
Exports to the U.S. rose 21.8% to 17,985 tons. Those to Asia increased by 119% but remain low at 510 tonnes. Shipments to other Latin American countries increased by 38.4% to $56,628. Europe was up 6.1% to 53,563.
Holland is the main destination of pears from Chile with 20 845 tonnes, followed by Italy with 14,138, Russia 4,206, Germany 5,526, Spain 3198 tonnes, France 1,094 and England 834 tonnes.
