Following the COVID-19 crisis and its negative impact on the Fruit & Vegetables sector, the European Commission has just adopted a series of exceptional measures to provide additional support to fruit and vegetable producers.
The main provision included in this package will allow producer organizations and their associations to benefit from an increase in the EU contribution (from 50% to 70%) for the implementation of their operational programs. The AREFLH strongly advocated for this exceptional measure and welcomes its adoption, as it will prevent EU producers from losing Community funds for reasons attributable to the coronavirus pandemic.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 health emergency, the AREFLH has actively contributed to the definition of several crisis management measures by collaborating with European political decision-makers and by formulating proposals. Among the measures requested, several (various derogations, increased flexibility, etc.) were adopted.
For Simona Caselli, AREFLH president, "European regions and producer organizations are grateful to the European Commission and the European Parliament for the support given to EU producers. In the coming months, AREFLH will continue to monitor the market situation and to assess the need for further exceptional measures if necessary. "
