Limoneira Company, one of the leading producers of citrus and avocados, based in Santa Paula, California, created the free app as part of Limoneira’s broader Take a Healthy Stand™ campaign. Innovative app was introduced at PMA Fresh Summit in Anaheim, California.
The new application, Nature’s Pharmacy, helps consumers easily identify fruits and vegetables in grocery stores that can help solve health-care issues. Most shoppers are quick to turn to the pharmacy or supplement aisle to cure or avoid common ailments, but Nature's Pharmacy shows them that much of what they need can be found in the produce aisle.
Harold Edwards, President and CEO of Limoneria explains that good health and maintaining balance continues to be important to everyone, and that produce and citrus can be critical to this balance. “At Limoniera, we understand that people are busy looking for solutions that can be quickly integrated into their busy lives, and that is exactly what the Nature's Pharmacy app does. Limoneira is proud to be a pioneer in educating consumers about how to eat their way to optimum health naturally”, - he adds.
Limoneira cross-tabulated 57 health concerns, including the need to raise good cholesterol, avoid cardiovascular disease or relieve insomnia, as well as desirable results with 74 fruits and vegetables, including increased energy levels or decreasing wrinkles. All of these products, available in most grocery stores, contain 12 essential vitamins and 11 essential minerals that address these concerns or aid with the desired results. After user selects concern or outcome, the app then generates foods that can achieving their health goals.
Nature’s Pharmacy is just one of the educational campaigns to be released as part of Limoneira's new Take a Healthy Stand™ platform, highlighting the many ways citrus and produce can play a role in helping to mitigate serious health problems as well as enhancing personal appearance and well-being. Educational campaign is supported by research by the Institute of National Health and other objective organizations.
“Food as Medicine maintains that fresh, healthy produce such as lemons can help avoid an expensive and perhaps less effective trip to the grocery department's supplement aisle,” – explains Megan Roosevelt, a Limoneira nutritionist and founder of Healthy Grocery Girl®.
John Chamberlain, Director of Marketing at Limoneira adds: “Limoneira is not another producer, supplier and global exporter of fresh fruits, we are healthy and nutrition provider. That is why as part of our educational campaign we have launched this app, helping consumers to calculate their balanced diet and avoid major health concerns”.
The Nature's Pharmacy app can be found on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
