The turnover of banana exports could reach 1 billion USD within 2 years.
In Colombia, the banana sector met at the recent Technical Congress where the 55th anniversary of the AUGURA organization was celebrated. These professionals took stock and examined the sector's prospects.
AUGURA plans to continue consolidating its main export markets, namely the European Union and the United States. The goal at the international level is to reach 1 billion USD of exports within 2 years.
Ambitious but achievable goal, with better productivity. In some Central American countries and Ecuador, productivity exceeds 3,000 cartons of bananas per hectare while in Colombia this productivity is only 2,000 cartons per hectare.
The sector must continue to make progress in disease prevention and must improve the management of water resources, a fundamental element of productivity.
