Disastrous weather in April caused a decline in apple production.
Apple production will be less than 50% compared with the volumes expected. The main reason is a succession of disastrous weather.
April was the wettest for over 100 years in Britain, then the month of May saw abnormally high temperatures and June was rainy and windy.
Southern England
, where 70% of apple production in the country is situated, is the region most affected. Some producers of Kent believes they have lost 90% of their crop.
England follows France, Germany and Belgium in announcing a lower production of apples than in previous years. Professionals expect higher imports from New Zealand, South Africa and Chile to meet the shortfall.
