China opens to American apples

Perfect timing : the re- opening of the Chinese market coincides with the largest crop ever conducted in the state of Washington, around 150 million boxes (18 kg).

Good news for apple growers of the state of Washington (USA) , China canceled its import ban and provides new market access.

The US Department of Agriculture has announced the immediate opening of the Chinese market for apples from the state of Washington, Red and Golden Delicious varieties.

These two varieties were already exported to China before the ban decided 2 years. According to Chinese authorities three species of fungi affecting US apples and posed a risk to national productions.

Before closing its market, China was the fourth largest customer for apples from the state of Washington, with more than 3 million boxes of 40 pounds (18 kg) delivered during the 2010-11 campaign.
