The Dutch Ministry of Agriculture announced that agricultural exports reached 90.3 billion euros in 2018, a slight increase of 0.2% compared to 2017 (90.1 billion euros).
A significant proportion of Dutch agricultural products are exported to Germany (22.8 billion euros) and Belgium (10.2 billion euros), these 2 neighboring countries together accounting for 36% of all Dutch agricultural exports. They are followed by the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Spain. The largest increases in Dutch agricultural exports in 2018 are in Japan (+ € 110 million), Morocco (+ € 93 million), Poland (€ 86 million), China (+ € 66 million).
Last year, the Netherlands exported 9.2 billion euros worth of agriculture-related products, such as agricultural machinery, machinery for the food industry, greenhouse materials, fertilizers and plant protection products. This represents an increase of 3.2% compared to 2017. In this category also, Germany and Belgium were the main buyers.
Agricultural innovation continues. While the R&D expenditure of all Dutch companies with more than 10 employees increased by almost 11%, those in the agricultural sector increased by around 19% (from 728 million to 864 million). euros).
