Flooding has caused a shortage and will force Pakistan to increase its imports of vegetables from India.

Because of the monsoon that has devastated one of the main agricultural regions of the country, causing shortages, Pakistan will have to import massively vegetables from India.

The monsoon has devastated vast areas of farmland and destroyed a part of the production, especially in the region of Sindh, which mainly produces vegetables.

The supply chain is disrupted. Every day, 800 to 1000 trucks of fruit and vegetables  arrived on Karachi’s wholesale market. Since the beginning of the monsoon, there are only 200 to 250 trucks arriving in the capital.

The president of Karachi’s wholesale market estimates that supplies of fruit and vegetables fell by 75% and prices have jumped nearly 100%.

Pakistan will also have to turn to India, like last year, and will have to massively import vegetables to face this shortage.
