Over 300% increase in avocado export revenues

Zimbabwe has benefited from the recent context, with continued strong global demand and declining production in some areas, to gain market share.

ZIMTRADE, the national agency for export promotion and development, announced that avocados export revenues increased by 301.9% to USD 4.2 million last year.

According to official data, the main destination markets in 2016 for Zimbabwean avocado exports were the Netherlands (68.3%), the United Kingdom (13.4%), France (9.0%) And Germany (6.6%).

The authorities want to continue to strengthen the reforms undertaken to increase exports to markets such as the European Union, the United States and Asia. Global demand for avocados rose sharply from USD 2.2 billion in 2012 to USD 4.9 billion in 2016 (+ 120.1%).
