Colombia recorded strong growth in exports by refrigerated containers.
A genuine boom in Colombian exports by refrigerated containers, their market share rose from 10% in 2015 to 25% in 2016.
Thanks to refrigerated container transport, Colombian exports, particularly bananas, avocados and pineapples, increased in volume and extended their destinations to 31 countries. Transport by refrigerated containers combines the advantages: efficiency, low costs and greater competitiveness. For example, MAERSK LINE COLOMBIA shipped 500 containers of bananas each week.
Bananas are the star products of exports, but avocados and pineapples, which are emerging in Colombia, can also benefit from the advantages of refrigerated container transport. Pineapple shipments totaled 20 containers in 2015 and 400 in 2016.
The projections for 2017 show an increase in exports of bananas, especially to the United States, but also exports of avocados and pineapples. Expected increase from 3 to 4% for container exports.
