3rd banana producer in Africa , the country expands its plantations

Mozambique is the third largest banana producer in Africa after Ivory Coast and Cameroon , and Ghana before , according to the classification established by the FAO (United Nations Food and Agricultgure ) .

Banana exports earn the country $ 70 million a year an official said service. Efforts continue to increase production volumes and quality of bananas.

New cultures, still in experiemental , in the region of Macate cover more than 6,000 hectares. Production for export could reach 75,000 tonnes of bananas .
