Delegation assessed wholesale markets, inspection procedures and pest-control systems.
Frutas de Chile highlighted stronger fruit exports and closer phytosanitary cooperation with Mexico following a recent industry visit.
At Mexico City’s Central de Abastos, Chilean stone fruit sales were reported to be 50% higher than the previous season. Chilean table grapes shipped under the Systems Approach programme are also performing well, achieving higher prices than fumigated fruit.
Security disruptions recently forced the closure of more than 1,900 stores at the Guadalajara wholesale market, which normally receives about 60,000 visitors daily. As a result, some importers have kept shipments at the port of Manzanillo until road transport conditions stabilise.
The delegation also visited the fruit fly control facility in Tapachula, which produces up to 2 billion sterile insects annually and operates 21,800 georeferenced traps, alongside aerial releases of parasitoid wasps and sterile insects.
According to figures shared by Senasica, between October 2024 and October 2025 Mexico certified 2,962 shipments of Chilean fresh fruit and vegetables, equivalent to 60,900 tonnes in 2,969 containers. Fresh grapes led shipments, followed by garlic and kiwifruit.
From October 2025 to 20 February 2026, authorities certified 1,566 additional shipments, representing 33,460 tonnes in 1,575 containers, with January accounting for 39% of procedures.
