In 2021, poor weather conditions reduced potato production yields. Current stocks are low. Switzerland to import more potatoes
FOAG (Federal Office for Agriculture) has authorized the additional import of 20,000 tonnes of table potatoes and 20,000 tonnes of potatoes for processing.
This increase in imported volume is valid from March 1 to July 15, 2022 for table potatoes and from March 1 to June 30, 2022 for potatoes intended for processing.
OFAG took this decision following the request of Swisspatat, the interprofessional organization of the potato sector. In 2021, poor weather conditions reduced potato production yields. Stocks are 30% to 40% lower than in a normal harvest year and the sector predicts that the quantities stored will not be sufficient to cover demand until the next harvest.
