Chile’s citrus industry met this month at the annual Jornada de Citricultura to review the main technical and market issues shaping the sector’s outlook.
The event, organised by the Citrus Committee of Frutas de Chile, brought together growers, exporters and technical specialists to discuss productivity, fruit quality and sustainability as the industry prepares for future challenges.
Industry representatives noted that Chile’s citrus exports have reached around 500,000 tonnes in recent seasons, underlining the sector’s growing role in global markets. The United States remains the main destination for Chilean citrus, particularly for mandarins and clementines.
Discussions focused on how producers can adapt to climate pressure, rising costs and stricter market requirements, while maintaining consistent quality across export programmes. Speakers also highlighted the need to strengthen technical management in orchards to support long-term competitiveness.
