The shortage of green lemons should be felt in Europe
Europe could lack Mexican green lemons (limes).
The Don Limon company, based in Germany, predicts that the export of Mexican green lemons (limes) will be very limited. The production collapsed in Mexico, where the main producing areas (Colima, Michoacán, Vera Cruz) were first affected by the hurricanes that destroyed the blooming orchards and the citrus greening disease (Huanglongbing or HLB ). Result: reduced and smaller fruit production.
Europe may not receive Mexican exports in April and May, according to Don Limon company forecasts. Current prices reflect this decline of the production, and went from a normal price of 15 USD/carton of 40 lbs. (18.14 kg) to USD 90 per carton for files to American standards.
