The demand for Chinese consumers is increasing for Southeast Asian fruits (mangoes, pitayas, passion fruit, longans, mangosteens ...).
Rapid growth in recent years has stabilized but demand remains high and is now coming from a new generation of consumers who are even more focused on healthy eating.
According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture fruit imports to China totaled 4.16 billion USD in 2013, then 5.12 billion USD in 2014, then 5.87 billion USD in 2015 and 5.81 billion USD in 2016 .
This decline last year reflects, according to market experts, changes in consumption patterns in China (exotic fruits, diet-health, e-commerce development).
Among the most important imports, China bought all the mangoes destined for export in Myanmar. The favorite Vietnamese fruits of Chinese consumers are the pitayas and passion fruits. Longans and mangosteens come from various countries of Southeast Asia. The Durian of Thailand has conquered up to 98% of the Chinese market.
