French retail sector under pressure
32 French organizations are determined to have 100 healthy products sold at cost in supermarkets.
Because eating healthily should not be a luxury for anyone, it is urgent to ensure access to 100 healthy foods at cost price. Led by foodwatch, Familles Rurales, and Secours Catholique, 32 associations representing consumers, those fighting poverty, patients, healthcare professionals, and advocates for environmental health have joined forces in an unprecedented campaign driven by a joint petition to finally make this measure mandatory in all supermarkets and hypermarkets. Together, the 32 organizations emphasize that access to healthy and sustainable food—accessible to everyone and ensuring fair compensation for farmers—is a fundamental right.
The government is also under pressure.
In an unprecedented campaign, 32 organizations are urging the Minister of the Economy, Roland Lescure, and the Minister of SMEs and Purchasing Power, Serge Papin, to address this urgent measure. This action is all the more necessary given that no measures to improve access to foods recommended by the National Nutrition and Health Program (PNNS) have been included in the National Food, Nutrition, and Climate Strategy (SNANC), which was just published.
