South Korean grape exports gain momentum as US target rises

South Korea’s fresh-fruit exports are posting strong growth in 2026, with grapes up 35.0%, pears 55.2% and strawberries 15.7% year on year through July, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA).

Grapes are now receiving particular attention. MAFRA plans to secure around 12,000 tonnes of premium-quality fruit, equivalent to 93% of its export target, and use the gap between South American supply seasons in December and January to strengthen overseas sales.

For the US, the target is around 2,700 tonnes, 150% above the previous level. The ministry also plans to support entry into Costco, provide inspection services on weekends and public holidays, and fund refrigerated transport.

Strawberry exporters will receive support to secure airfreight space at the end of the year, including a trial shipment of 30 tonnes of high-ripeness premium berries. For pears, Korea wants to reduce its current dependence on the US by expanding premium distribution in Taiwan and Vietnam and extending the export season through separate storage management.
