China opens its market to Chiles' pears imports.
During President Piñera's visit to China, an agreement was signed to open the Chinese pears market in Chile.
"We want to reproduce with pears what we have achieved with cherries on the Chinese market"
With this agreement, several pear varieties including Abate Fetel, Packham, Forelle, Bosc, can be exported to China. Chile currently has about 8,800 hectares of pear plantations and exports generate $128.5 million with Colombia ($19 million) and Russia ($16.7 million) as major buyers.
In addition, the agreement signed also accelerates the opening of the Chinese market to Chilean citrus fruits (oranges, clementines, mandarins, lemons).
This agreement will have a positive impact on producers as the area planted increases.
