Surfaces of potatoes fell by 30.3% in 10 years

Net decrease in acreage of potatoes in Spain

In 2013 the acreage of potatoes totaled 71,100 hectares, a decrease of 30.3% compared to 2004. This places of Spain well down compared to other countries such as Germany (241 200 hectares), the Netherlands (155 800 hectares), the United Kingdom (139,000 hectares), France (154 000 hectares).

The FEPEX meeting, composed of producers and marketers of different Spanish regions, analyzed the prospects of the campaign, and lamented the decline in production that follows. In Spain the imports of potatoes amounted to 600,000 tons, consumption of more than 1 million tons.
