67% of the population eats fruits and vegetables everyday

A study on consumption patterns in Spain show encouraging results for the Fruits & Vegetables sector.
Cabinet Nielsen studied the consumption patterns who reported that 67% of Spanish eat fruits and vegetables every day. According to this study , the category Fruits & Vegetables is the second item of Spanish expenditure, just after the meat, and represents 11.5% of total food expenditures.
Fruits and Vegetables are the only category of fresh produce to have recorded an increase in sales. Since the early 2013, vegetable sales increased 5.5% and sales of fruit by 4.6%.
According to the study , 56% of the population consumes fruits as a "snack" . Orange is the most common fruit on Spanish tables , representing 27.5 % of consumption , followed by Apple (10.4%) and bananas ( 10.1%). Regarding vegetables, potatoes topped the ranking (28.4%) to the tomato (15.5%) and onion (9.7%).
